ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: our co-supporters found their own route to Windsor (they were coming straight from their first stop at Cookham Bridge NOT Bray) which took them past the castle.  They found cafes open and were able to get much needed refreshment!

Suggestion for the Confident Supporter Crew!

From around this point onwards, down to the M25 (and within a certain amount of reason, all the way to Teddington) you can replenish your crews almost anywhere along the river bank (especially through the parks), rather than at the frantic moments through the locks and rollers.  The crew need only pull alongside, having been hailed from the bank.  Although you don't want to alarm them into thinking something is wrong and they need to come ashore - you should plan ahead and arrange with your crew that you intend to do some supporting from places along the route other than at the Locks.

This not only allows the support crew to avoid the congestion at the designated portages, but allows the paddlers to fill up as needed and concentrate on portaging without the additional pressure of you trying to forcefeed them!

You will need to do some careful route planning to find suitable locations and work out how to get to them at the right time.
