Postcode - approx SN8 3NU
The above postcode is for the Three Tuns Pub in Gt Bedwyn village, not the canal locks but the pub is pretty close to the Wharf.
Continue along main road to Great Bedwyn.
At T junction bear LEFT into Great Bedwyn
Into village, past church (poss park here) to T junction
Turn right towards Shalborne & Oxenwood
Continue over railway bridge and canal bridge to Wharf car park on the right.
PARKING - You can park in several places in Great Bedwyn. You do not need to go as far as the Wharf but can park near the church and take the footpath to the canal and you will come out right by a lock with bridge over (see photo).
Or, you can park in the village and walk to Wharf. There is also a railway car park as well as the Wharf car park. If you park at any of these, once down beside the canal either walk west towards the lock and bridge mentioned above (about quarter of a mile) or walk east to next lock (Burnt Mill Lock, see photo below).
Great Bedwyn has a good village shop which was open on Good Friday.
LOOS - we did not spot any!
Waterside B starts at Great Bedwyn and the year we went parking here was complete chaos. The Wharf car park was of course full (lots of minibuses and boat trailers) and this meant lots of people (including us) had to extricate ourselves from the full car park out on to a road already blocked with yet more people trying to find somewhere to park.
We eventually got out and back over the very narrow canal and railway bridges (look out for people carrying boats as well as spectators, dogs and other vehicles!) and parked on the roadside in the village itself. All was well until we needed to leave - at the same time as everyone else of course - then there was total gridlock.
HOWEVER, the good news is that on the DW event itself, because Gt Bedwyn was not the starting point and obviously the boats were more dispersed by this point, parking wasn't nearly as ghastly as for the Waterside.
